Iris--goddess of the rainbow in Greek mythology, is the messenger between Olympian gods and earthly man. When a good, virtuous man passes away, she descends upon the land in the form of a rainbow to carry the dead man's soul up into the heavens. Using the iris flower as a metaphor, the designer incorporated the meaning of the flower--appreciation and admiration--into a tribute to the lovely goddess by bedecking the brooch set with dazzling shades of blue that are both classic and regal.
